On the last day of school I received a message from my best friend that his parents decided to move out to another city because of his father’s new job and asked me to come over to his house for the last time in his life. Before I could even finish reading the entire letter I rushed to his house to see him for the last time in this town. I didn’t take an umbrella even though rain was pouring outside because I had one job to do to hang out and talk to him before he leaves this town. By the time I reached his house all the days and nights I spent with my best friend came to my mind desperately thinking only about him.
I knocked on the door too many times when I arrived at his house. My entire body was shaking and my heart was beating so fast that I could hear or feel it, even though the storm was thundering loudly. My friend’s mother opened the door and asked — If I was alright — and I asked without greeting her: “ If I can talk to my friend” and she called out my best friend — Max. Then Max asked me to come to his room in a thin voice. I knew he was not alright by his voice and I went upstairs. He was sitting on his bed, crying and I sat next to him and asked
— Why are you crying? And if it is about moving out I told him not to worry that we can still talk or chat online through phone. He answered :
— “No, it is not about moving out of another town, it is about us! You know how best friends we are! You know we can not live apart! Don’t you remember the days and nights we spent together?! And still WHY did you ask me that question?! WHY?!”.
“I am worried what if we are separated and never meet again?!”
— I answered crying — “ I know! What are you feeling right now! I understand!”, “How far you may go, You will always be my best friend!” — I said these words and left his house with a smiley face, inside I broke down and ate myself alive.
I went straight to my house, slammed shut my room’s door and started crying. My parents heard the shut voice and knocked on the door asking if I was alright and what happened! I could not dare to speak or make a sound, but my parents opened the door and entered my house when they saw me crying. They asked what happened desperately, but I kept crying. Once they sat next to me, I started mumbling to them and told them everything that happened today and when they noticed that I worried about being separated, they gave me a hug and promised me to go to my friend's house after a year. I stopped crying and I was a bit happy by hearing that, but waiting a year to go to his house was something I did not want to hear. But then, another message came from him. He said, “He will send me a message from his new number”. After that I felt a bit relaxed.
On the first day of my summer vacation I decided to go to my grandparents house for a month so I will not remember the things that happened yesterday. If I had stayed there for another day I would not have stopped crying at all because every single thing in this house reminded me of our friendship with Max. I packed all my stuff and left my house with tears in my eyes and I asked my father to take me to Max’s house for the last time in my life. My father hesitated a bit because he did not want me to remember that day, the day I cried out loud, but still I urged him to go there. Once my father stopped right at Max’s house, another family started living there. I was a bit upset and I simply left that house where we used to play games non-stop day and night, but now it is gone.
Once I arrived at my grandparents, I said my father a goodbye and started organizing things in my room. This year I had to apply for my dream universities of Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard. Unfortunately, I wanted to do it together with Max. Still, I remember Max here. In our childhood, we did everything together, but being without him feels like a tree without roots, a flower without beauty or a person without spirit. Then I thought it was time to do everything alone, without anyone's help. I started studying like crazy because I had one goal, to enter my dream university. Days passed by and everything has changed. I started doing things alone rather than relying on someone, but still I thought about Max, I was still waiting for his message.
